Chelsea Fringe – WC @ Vanguard Court

Garden designer Anna Rose Hughes has created, with the help of Vanguard studio-holder David Ersser, a truly wonderful garden in a previously neglected and unloved part of Vanguard Court behind the disused toilet block. Anna created the garden as part of the Chelsea Fringe. See below for the before and after photos (with thanks to Allan Pollok-Morris).

The garden is open to the public from 10am to 6pm from 18 May to 9 June 2013 with special events at weekends.

Vanguard Prizewinner 2011 Philip Li aka Le Fil is marking the end of his residency at Vanguard Court with an exhibtion at Camberwell Space. Please see below and the attached press release.

We wish Philip all the best for the future as he prepares to move on from his year at Vanguard Court.

Our next open studios will be as follows

Private View Friday: 22nd June 5 - 9pm
Saturday - Sunday: 23rd - 24th June 11am- 6pm

A wide range of ceramics, painting, jewellery, sculpture and much more will be on show and on sale. Those taking part include Chris Keenan, Carina Ciscato, Annie Turner, Merete Rasmussen, John Mahoney-Phillips, Philip Li, Robert Cooper, Sun Kim, Catrin Howell, Kate Wickham, Grant Aston, Sarah Woolfenden, Alison Rees, Hanna James, Corin Johnson, and Flux Studios.

Other highlights include The London Stained Glass Co. where Judi Stark & Geoff Simpson will show stained glass panels together with a new collection of fused glass pieces and will have glass cutting demonstrations throughout the weekend.

Mr Jones Watches tell us "We will be delighted to welcome people to our new studios which should be (nearly) operational. We design and produce wristwatches, currently all our production is done in Asia. In this studio however we will be able to produce samples and small production runs ourselves."

Vanguard Court's biannual open studios will be taking place from Friday 2nd December to Sunday 4 December, with a private view on Thursday 1 December.

So far, we have been told of the following studios and artists that will be taking part:

Ceramicists:
Catrin Howell, Chris Keenan, Sun Kim, Annie Turner, Robert Cooper, Carina Ciscato, Kate Wickham, Grant Aston, Sarah Woolfenden, Alison Rees and Merete Rasmussen will be exhibiting in studios 2ED, 4A and 7C. John Mahoney-Philips will be exhibiting in studio 7L (first floor Unit 7).

Jewellery Designers:
Barbara Yarde, Ilona Guest, Imogen Belfield, Maggie Laing, Bev Holden, Yuki Sasakura, Kyle Hopkins, Claire Hart, Vicky Forrester, Natascha Kotsoupoulou, Alex Yule, Becky Dockre and Dickie Wilkinson will be exhibiting at Flux Studios- Unit 2F

Silversmiths
Howard Fenn (studio 2A) is participating in the open studios. There will be a free prize draw for all visitors to win a little silver spoon with a vintage glass salt. Read more about Howard here.

Painters
Caroline Cary in studio 7N (first floor Unit 7) and Chris Poulton in studio 1B will be exhibiting.

Much, much more...
Many other artists, woodworkers, sculptors etc are also going to throw open their studio doors and both exhibit and sell wonderful creations during the open studios at Vanguard Court.

Vanguard Ceramicists on Spode Award shortlist at British Ceramics Biennial.

Five ceramicists from Vanguard Court and one alumnus have been selected for the prestigious Spode Award shortlist at the British Ceramics Biennial. Current Vanguardians on the twenty four-strong shortlist are Carina Ciscato, Robert Cooper, Chris Keenan, Sun Kim and Merete Rasmussen. Alumnus Julian Stair is also on the shortlist for the £10,000 prize

All twenty four shortlisted ceramicists feature in the AWARD exhibition at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent.

Merete Rasmussen Interviewed in Living South

Merete... set up in this quiet artistic corner off Peckham Road. The site of a former suitcase factory, big windows create a bright ambiance year round. The walls hint at her inspirations, displaying sketches, printouts of colourful 3D models of mathematical equations, a photograph of a clock face and another of a stadium.
